The terrific taste of sourdough bread most likely originated with the Ancient Egyptians sometime around 1500 B.C. It is likely that the art of beer making originated near the same time. Fermented and leavened grains were probably first brewed into beverages. Then an imaginative mind used some left-overs from this process and popped them into bread dough to see what would happen. According to the Wheat Marketing Center in Portland, Oregon, that may have been some 6,000 years ago
